With quadtones, practically anything is possible. Saturating the highlights with yellow, saturating the midtones with yellow and blue to create the green, and adding large amounts of all four inks to the shadows creates a dreamlike effect that adds punch to the image.
How we did it...
The tritone image was converted to a multichannel image with an alpha channel moved to the top position. Next, the alpha channel was filled with white and the image was converted, first to grayscale and then to CMYK. The result was a blank CMYK image with three spot color channels. Three layers were then filled with the chosen colors and masked using the images from the Spot Color channels, with the upper channel set to a Blend Mode of Multiply. The highlights are PANTONE Process 1-1 with curve settings of 0:0, 5:45, 50:0, 100:0. The Midtones are PANTONE Process 288-1 with curve settings of 0:0, 20:0, 50:90, 100:0. The shadows are a build of C100 M65 Y10 K80 with curve settings of 0:0, 30:0 100:100.
